Drain Cleaning in Jacksonville, NC

Every clog feels the same from above the sink. From below, clogs have causes — and the cause decides whether a cleaning fixes the problem or just reschedules it. This page helps you tell the difference before you call.

One Drain, or Every Drain?

That is the first diagnostic question, and you can answer it yourself. One slow fixture — a single bathroom sink, one tub — usually means a clog in that fixture’s trap or branch line: hair and soap in a bathroom, grease and food residue in a kitchen. That is a straightforward cleaning job. Multiple drains slow at once, the lowest tub or shower in the house backing up, gurgling from other fixtures when one drains, or any sign of sewage — that pattern points past the individual drain, toward the main line or the sewer line itself. Cleaning one sink will not fix it, and our Sewer Line Repair & Replacement page explains what will.

What Proper Drain Cleaning Involves

A professional cleaning clears the full width of the pipe with the right tool for the line — a cable machine (snake) sized to the drain, or water-jetting where grease and buildup coat the pipe walls. Where a clog keeps coming back, a camera inspection of the line shows why: a sagging section, roots, a broken pipe, or buildup that cleaning alone will not cure. If a company wants to sell you a major line repair, asking to see the camera footage is a reasonable request.

About Chemical Drain Openers

Use caution. Chemical openers rarely clear a serious clog, they can damage older pipes and finishes, and they leave caustic water standing in the line that the plumber then has to work in. If you have already used one and the drain is still clogged, tell the company when you call — they need to know for their own safety.

The Recurring Clog Rule

A drain cleaned once that clogs again within a short period is telling you something. Grease habits in a kitchen can be changed; a line that re-clogs on its own schedule usually has a physical cause worth finding. Diagnosis first, then the fix that matches it — that order saves money.
